How to Maintain the Perfect Smile

HomeWellnessHow to Maintain the Perfect Smile

One of the first things people notice about a person is their smile. A set of pearly whites can make all the difference in a first impression. Fortunately, there are a few relatively easy steps in achieving and maintaining that perfect smile we all want.

Be Consistent

First things first, you need to be consistent. It is not enough to brush your teeth once a week or even once a day. You want to establish a teeth cleaning routine that is both thorough and consistent. After each meal is the best frequency, because leaving food particles, especially sugar, on your teeth can wreak havoc on your enamel. Flossing once in the morning and once at night, followed by brushing with fluoride toothpaste is a great first step toward that perfect smile.

Watch What You Eat and Drink

You want to be intentional with the foods and drinks you choose to put into your body because sugary foods and drinks are bad for the integrity of the tooth, as well as the coloring of the enamel itself. Most stains are on the outside of your teeth and can be easily removed, but stains deeper inside your teeth may require professional help to remove. By rinsing your mouth in between meals and using a straw you can help alleviate these stains and other forms of damage from occurring.

Schedule Regular Dental Visits

Making a conscious decision to go to the dentist regularly is one of the best steps you can take toward a healthier, more vibrant smile. Consistent flossing, brushing, and even using a water flosser is incredibly beneficial, but it is nearly impossible to get your teeth as clean as a professional can. There is no need to have a fear of going to the dentist, especially if you decide to go on a regular basis. Going to the dentist at least once a year, though twice is better, is crucial in the journey toward a more beautiful smile.

Achieving perfection is not always possible, but when it comes to your smile, perfection is actually usually attainable. Sometimes, especially if dental health has gone by the wayside due to life, it takes a little more work than others. Nevertheless, there is no need to fret. With advancements in dental technology and access to more information regarding proper dental hygiene, you can establish and then maintain the perfect smile you have always dreamed of having.
