Equipment You Need to Start Your Videography Business

HomeBusinessEquipment You Need to Start Your Videography Business

If you love making videos and have an eye for what makes a good shot, you may want to start planning to create your own videography business. But to make sure that you get your business off on the right foot, you need to make sure that you have the right equipment. With the combination of your particular skills and the equipment you need, you can get your videography business up and running and start making connections with various clients.

A Video Camera

You can’t have a videography business without a great video camera. In most cases, people will use a DSLR (or digital single lens reflex) camera for their videos. These cameras allow you a lot of room for manually adjusting the image so you can make sure that you get a final result you love. Some people will get a mirrorless camera for video as well. A traditional DSLR camera uses a mirror to reflect the image, but this can lead to some issues with the smoothness of video. A mirrorless camera can often create a more seamless feel for the videos you shoot with it.

A Computer With the Right Specs

Being a videographer isn’t just about taking videos, in fact, a lot of the work has more to do with the editing process. This means that you need to have a computer that can handle the work of editing video files regularly. Your computer also needs to be able to handle the amount of memory that your video files will need to be stored and edited. Unstructured data like video takes up a lot of room, so you need sufficient storage space.

Lots of Batteries

A digital camera will generally come with a battery, but if you are shooting frequently, you will need to have multiple batteries and chargers. That way, you can seamlessly move from shot to shot, even when your camera battery dies. There is nothing more frustrating than having a camera die without a replacement battery when you are on the job, so make sure you have plenty of backups to keep your shoot running.

Running a videography business takes passion, and when you have the right equipment, you can let your passion fly. That will give you the opportunity to experiment and come up with a personal style. Once your equipment is up and running, you can start using it to create amazing video content.
