How to Protect Your Floors When You Have Pets

HomeEnlightenHow to Protect Your Floors When You Have Pets

Your pets are an important part of your family, but they can also bring some challenges into your home. One of the things pets can cause problems for is the flooring you have throughout your house. If you want to make sure that your floors stay in good condition, you should take action to protect them from your pets and the havoc they can cause.

Vacuum Carpets

One of the major problems with pets and flooring is that they can take a toll on your carpeting. In addition to accidents that may happen in your home, pets are also full of allergens. Those allergens can get trapped in your carpet and lead to problems with your air quality.

Staying on top of vacuuming can help you to avoid issues with pet hair and allergens in your home. It is a good rule of thumb to vacuum your carpets weekly, so you can keep them clean and improve the air quality in your home.

Seal Hardwood

Hardwood floors are good for pets, since they are easy to clean, but you have to take care of them for them to stay in good shape. The most important thing you should do to take care of your wood floors is to make sure that they are properly sealed.

A clear coat finish can protect wood floors from scratches and stains. This is especially important when you have pets because pets can scratch flooring with their nails or cause a problem when they have an accident. The kind of sealant you might want to use can vary depending on the wood your floors are made of.

Keep Their Food And Water On a Mat

Your animals’ food and water can cause a lot of damage to your floors, so you want to protect them from that. Many pets tend to be messy eaters, so they need a little help to prevent themselves from creating big messes that damage your floor. Having a mat under food and water bowls can make it much easier to keep your floors clean. Then, make sure to clean the mats at least weekly so they don’t lead to contamination issues.

No matter how much you love your pets, it can still be frustrating when they damage parts of your home. Having some preparations in place can help you to make sure that your home looks great, even with your pets around. When you make a plan, you can keep your pets and your floors happy.
