Come June and Apple fans might be drooling. There is news doing the rounds that Apple will be a debuting a new MacBook Air at a cheaper price and it may debut as early as June 2018 according to the latest rumors.
If those last words were a dampener for you, don’t let be so because this bit of news comes from Ming-Chi Kuo. An analyst at KGI who a reliable source of Apple tips in the past has been.
According to Kuo, the new Apple will have a lower price tag and could help push MacBook shipments up by 10-15 per cent this year. It will be a positive development for those who don’t want to spend a lot and yet want a piece of Apple tech.
At the moment all this is just a rumor though although 9to 5 which first reported this did point out that this report is similar to a report by DigiTimes claiming that a new 13 -inch MacBook would be offered by Apple this year. The article hinted at a launch date of second half of 2018 and talked about it being a potential replacement for the MacBook Air.

Speculation
There aren’t any details available on what the possible spec of this potential MacBook Air refresh might be but considering the limited importance given by Apple on the Air range, it is likely to be a minor update.
However as pointed out earlier, the reduced price might become the main point.Apple’s high pricing has been an issue for the firm’s notebook range particularly the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.
This could be a driver for Apple to take action.  the base. As of date, MacBook Air costs $999 (around AU$1,290) or £949 (although you can get a slightly cheaper model online). Not so long ago, you could pick up a MacBook Air for 749 pounds (the old 11-inch version).
Anyway, the good news for consumers could be that they could lap up a piece of Apple tech without hurting their pockets too much soon.
At any rate, given that this machine is expected to launch at some point from April through to June, if it’s really happening, we should hear more concrete details soon.
A new MacBook too?
Another report from a DigiTimes analyst suggests that Apple is planning to bring out a ‘entry level’ 13-inch MacBook with a retina display that will be priced at around the same level as the current MacBook Air.
According to the report, Apple is using a LG display for the new 13.3 screens, which will boast the same resolution as the MacBook Pro with the Retina display – 2560 x 1600 pixels.
The new machine is expected to enter mass production by the end of May which hints at a reveal at WWDC in June.
The last time Apple introduced a major change in the MacBook Pro was in 2016 when it launched the MacBook Pro with a touch bar instead of the familiar function keys. Initially, users reacted to this design change as a gimmick but later on the utility of that sank in as it gave instant one touch access to the apps that a user wanted to access on the laptop.
