The PTE Academic Essay Writing Task comes in Section I: Speaking & Writing. This is a really crucial item as you can score around 15 credits for it. Not just that, but the ‘Written discourse’ Score under Enabling Skills is scored by evaluating this item alone. Being good at English is not equal to being good at writing an essay.
How To Score Maximum Marks
It’s PTE Academic Essay, so it’s just not about the content you are writing. Your every single English Ability is evaluated so let’s take a look at them. Firstly, you need to know the scoring process. The content tops the chart if the score is 0 then no matter how good your grammar or spelling was, you will end up with a zero. Now, let’s say you scored more than zero in Content so you get those marks but if the form is zero then again no further scores will be given.

Content
You are firstmost scored on how much you have mentioned about the topic and dealt with its aspects.
3: Adequately deals with the prompt
2: Deals with the prompt but do not deal with one minor aspect
1: Deals with the prompt but omit a major aspect or more than one minor aspect
0: Does not deal properly with the prompt
Form
Your form is scored on the number of words you have used in your essay. The word limit for PTE Academic is 200-300. Deviating from this word limit can cause a reduction in marks.
2: Length is between 200 and 300 words
1: Length is between 120 and 199 or between 301 and 380 words
0: Length is less than 120 or more than 380 words.
Total word count appears on your screen so it shouldn’t be an issue to limit your words in 200-300 bracket. But there are other things that can result in 0 marks because the form is not just about word count. Things that can result in zero marks:
Essay Written In Capital Letters
The Essay contains no punctuation (.,!)
Only consists of bullet points/short sentences
Make sure you do not commit these mistakes.
Development Structure And Coherence
2: Shows good development and logical structure
1: Is incidentally less well structured, and some elements or
paragraphs are poorly linked
0: Lacks coherence and mainly consists of lists or loose elements
Let’s talk about how you should structure your Essay. There should be total 4 paragraphs ideally.
Introduction: First Para
You need to mention what’s the Essay is going to be about in your own words. Your introduction should explain what is the essay is going to be about. The introduction also helps you built a narrative to write furthermore on the topic.
The Body Of Essay: Second & Third Para
This part depends on what kind of prompt you are given. You need to decide whether you agree or disagree on a statement. Or you may have to write about how different communities feel about it. For Example,
It can be different and ask you a question. You can explain the answer to tell why you think so or what’s your take on it.
Write two paragraphs on content and stick with your argument or opinion unless the article asks you to give both sides. An example where you should provide both question:
Q: Some people think that students benefit from going to private secondary schools. Others, feel that private secondary schools can have a negative effect on society as a whole. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
The Conclusion: Fourth Para
You can not leave your essay abruptly. End it with a conclusion which can explain your essay and point of views in a short. Do not make the conclusion entirely different from the content you are writing. Stick to the direction you are going with and a conclusion will naturally occur to you.
Grammar
Well, it’s English, so evaluating on you on your grammar is no surprise. Make sure you are working on your grammar skills.

General linguistic range
Your language should precisely convey your ideas. If you want to score better, you may want to avoid using simple sentences. A more complex and creative response can yield a good score. You can improve your writing skills with these tips.

thoughts precisely, give emphasis, differentiate and eliminate
ambiguity. No sign that the test taker is restricted in what they want to
communicate

0: Contains mainly basic language and lacks precision
Vocabulary Range
Using a wide range of words can work in your favor. Synonyms and Idioms can work for you but stick to the academic terms. Slangs are a big no-no.
2: Good command of a broad lexical repertoire, idiomatic expressions
and colloquialisms
1: Shows a good range of vocabulary for matters connected to general
academic topics. Lexical shortcomings lead to circumlocution or some
imprecision

Spelling
Different countries have different spelling rules which is why PTE Academic recognizes English spelling conventions from the U.S, the U.K., Australia, and Canada. But you should be using one convention throughout the exam. Make sure to avoid spelling mistakes.
