With that in mind, here are some tips that can help you set up a Zen corner for yourself.

    In order to be able to create a serene area for yourself, you first need to find the right spot for it. Now, of course, your options are not the same if you have a tiny apartment and if you have a spacious house with a backyard. In the case of the latter, you might even be able to dedicate a whole room to this purpose.

    Some of the things you need to take into consideration when choosing the place for this is its purpose, who will be using it, how often, and so on. For instance, if it’s an area where the whole family can go to rest or bond, you will need a bigger space. Then, if its main purpose is relaxing, you want it to be in a part of the home that doesn’t experience much traffic during the day. Therefore, depending on your home’s layout, this safe space can be a corner in your bedroom or a cozy little nook in your backyard.

    Introduce soft lighting

    For a relaxing atmosphere, you don’t want harsh lights. To create a soothing ambiance, you should look for a way to introduce soft lighting. Placing this corner near a window that will provide you with an abundance of natural light is a great choice, if possible. However, even if you don’t have access to natural light, you can still benefit from this area with some artificial light.

    For instance, instead of bright overhead lights, you can opt for fixtures that can cast a soft glow. On the other hand, even general lighting is okay if you can tone it down, so consider installing a dimmer switch. Moreover, you should get LED bulbs that are warm-toned. Of course, if you plan on reading in your little oasis, don’t compromise your eyesight by reading in low light. Finally, don’t forget to add a few candles as their light will not tire your eyes but will create a homey mood.

    Colors also play a vital role in creating a space where you can feel tranquil. As we all have different sensibilities, you need to choose the shades that make you feel secure and relaxed.     Although you might not be painting the walls if you’re transforming only a corner, there are many other ways how you can incorporate these colors into space. For instance, try curtains or rugs in these shades.

    Make it comfy with soft furnishings

    While on the topic of rugs and curtains, you want this space to be warm, cozy, and inviting. The best way to achieve that is by adding comfortable furniture and different textures that will ensure your every visit to your special place is serene and revitalizing.

    For example, sheepskins and soft blankets are a must when creating a relaxing Zen area. Then, if you have enough space, you can also add a calming massage chair that will help you relieve some stress and promote health and wellness. Furthermore, if several people will be using this spot at the same time, you want a sofa or a few poufs so that everyone has somewhere to sit.

    Bring in plenty of greenery

    Being close to nature can often provide us with a sense of security and relaxation. Additionally, there are multiple health perks of indoor plants that you will benefit from. This is why you need to bring as much greenery as you can into this little oasis.

    Luckily, the choice of houseplants you can introduce to this area is vast. You’re low on natural light? Go for the cast iron plant, lucky bamboo, or Bromeliads. You have no shelf space? Get some hanging alternatives like pothos, maidenhair fern, or a string of pearls. If you’re not good at taking care of plants, there are also many varieties that are hard to kill such as aloe and the rubber plant. If all else fails, you can always put some fresh flowers in a cute vase.

    Add a calming scent

    There are some scents that further enhance your relaxation efforts and some that can help cleanse the space. While these can be introduced through flowers and scented candles, you can also use essential oils for this purpose.

    Rosemary, lavender, peppermint, and lemon are just some of the scents you can consider adding to your Zen corner if you want to relax. They can act as stress reliever and work great if you plan on meditating in the area. On the other hand, if you plan on being creative in this space, you can use cinnamon, bergamot, grapefruit, and jasmine, for instance.

    Cutting out background noise can be very difficult, especially if you live in a busy household or a lively city. Plus, if you cannot put any walls between yourself and other people, this can be even more challenging.

    However, you can close all windows to cut down on outside noise. Then, ask your family members or roommates to keep quiet while you are in your little sanctuary. If that is not an option, you can consider noise-canceling headphones that will help get you in the right mindset. Whether through headphones or a speaker, you can play some soothing nature sounds.

    Personalize the space

    Nothing will make a space relaxing as much as personalization. From inspirational quotes and travel memorabilia to photos of your loved ones, there are many ways how you can make this space homier and comfier.

    Of course, there is also the option of art pieces. If your corner doesn’t have a nice view of the outdoors, you can introduce artwork that depicts fields, forests, rivers, waterfalls, and other nature scenes. Such a piece can help you with visualization if that is something that you might be interested in.

    Keep it clean

    Lastly, for this space to serve its purpose, you need to keep it clean and free of clutter. Clutter can be detrimental to relaxation so make sure the area is minimally decorated. If you do any activities in this part of your home, make sure to tidy up once you’re done. If any of the household members use the area as well, ask them to keep it properly maintained.
