How to Protect Your Family From Mold

HomeVital EdgeHow to Protect Your Family From Mold

Mold is an unfortunate presence in many homes that can cause health problems. Fortunately, there are ways to shield your home from mold, and that means you can protect your family from the negative effects mold can have on everyone’s health.

Identify Areas Where Mold Can Hide

The bathroom is a room in the house where mold manages to creep up frequently. However, there are plenty of other places in the home where mold can thrive. Mold can creep in from behind the walls, the roof or other places where it is hard to spot. This is a problem because the longer the mold is allowed to grow, the more it can negatively impact the health of your family. Allergic reactions to mold can develop. The symptoms may be mild or severe, but they won’t go away unless the mold is removed. Make sure to check in places where mold can creep in unnoticed. Identify signs of mold on your roof. Be aware of leaks in your roof or any musty smells coming from that area. It’s also important to look for physical signs of mold on your roof.

Clean the Home Regularly

Cleaning is not high on anyone’s list of favorite activities, but it’s necessary if you want to prevent mold from taking hold in your home. Always dry wet surfaces, and pay special attention to the bathroom, where mold can grow easily due to the damp environment. Ventilation fans help keep mold from growing in the bathroom, and it’s a good idea to open windows all over the house to air it out. Running your air conditioner also helps, and wiping down your sink and shower daily can keep mold at bay.

Fix Leaks Immediately

Water leaks obviously are a waste of water, but they also create the perfect environment for mold to grow. If you notice a leak in your house, fix it sooner than later, so you don’t end up with a mold infestation that threatens the health of everyone in your home. Check under sinks and anywhere else where leaks can occur without you immediately noticing them. Paying to have a leak fixed is much cheaper than having mold removed after it has started creeping into your house.

Make your home inhospitable to mold growth by following a few simple steps that will safeguard your space. Your family’s health will suffer if mold is allowed to take hold of your home.
