Ransomware-as-a-Service: Basic Concepts and Protection Techniques

HomeNextGenRansomware-as-a-Service: Basic Concepts and Protection Techniques

The world we’re living in has never been so scary – from the moment we wake up till it’s time to go to bed again, we’re always under different threats and trying to survive another day without any consequences. This is why so many people are looking for cover in the online world and deciding to spend their time on their computers instead of socializing with other people. They believe this is the right thing to do and a way to stay safer and feel less threatened. While that may seem like the right solution at first, you need to remember that the digital world is full of dangers as well. From professional cyber terrorists lurking around the Internet just waiting to attack you to all those smaller threats that are constantly trying to take your money, some so many people are turning the Internet into a more treacherous environment than it’s ever been. Ransomware-as-a-service is one of the newest and most threatening dangers on the Internet at the moment, but how does it really function and can it affect you as well?

Ransomware 101

As soon as you see the world “ransom” mentioned in this kind of context, you can expect something bad to happen. And when you see this word when talking about online crimes and cyber terrorists trying to take your money, things become simple to understand. Ransomware has been around for quite some time and it’s your regular malware – hence the “ware” part of the word – that attacks your computer, encrypting your data, and demanding you to pay the ransom – hence the “ransom” in ransomware –to retrieve your data.

Unlike all other cyber-attacks where you’re given a chance to undo the deed, or at least talk to someone who knows how to do that, ransomware denies you this opportunity and holds your data in custody until you pay the money. Still, this doesn’t guarantee you’re going to get your files back, so paying the ransom might not always solve the problem.

Ransomware-as-a-service 101

Unlike, the number of those who are trying to earn money deceiving people over the Internet is getting higher and higher, and they’re getting more and more organized. This is why they’ve come up with a solution that will help them trick a huge number of people in less time and with less effort, and that’s how ransomware-as-a-service was born.

Just like it’s older and much less criminal brother software-as-a-service, this service is all about helping online scammers scam you even more easily. What’s even worse is that there are so many RaaS packages all over the web and they’re ready to be used by literally anyone who wants to earn money scamming people. You don’t even have to be an experienced hacker to do that now – you just need to find the right RaaS package, use it to create ransomware, find your targets, and that’s practically it.

RaaS Protection 101

Protecting yourself and your data against ransomware isn’t the easiest in the world, but it’s not the hardest either. You just have to look into simple ideas that can go a long way and stick to the most effective protection tactics. First, do whatever you can to update your security potential – stick to reliable computer network security solutions that will help you minimize the chances for ransomware once and for all. These solutions will introduce a massive change into your life and help you regain your peace of mind when it comes to your data, your money, and your digital presence.

Also, don’t forget to update your data regularly. This is something you should be doing even if you’re not afraid of becoming a victim of RaaS because it’s a very quick and easy way to prevent major damage. Finally, be sure to update your system regularly, especially your anti-malware software. This will help you fight new and updated RaaS packages more easily and successfully, and it’s one of those things that will make your life much easier.

Moving on 101

There’s one thing you need to remember if you end up becoming a victim of a cyber-attack and losing all your data – this isn’t the end of the world! Yes, you may be shaken and feel vulnerable, but it’s just data. Your health is still intact – both your physical and mental health – and, at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.

In attrition to keeping cool and calm, you should try to recover your data as much as you can. Discover where the attack came from, contain the damage, introduce a new backup system, and notify the police. This will help you move on more easily and quickly, and you’ll be able to minimize the damage as well.

Ransomware-as-a-service is starting to affect us all, but learning how to avoid the problems and moving past them will help you more than you can imagine. So, take a deep breath, learn more about the things we’ve mentioned here, and try not to become a victim of ransomware!
