KPMG, which stands for Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler, is recognized as one of the Big Four accounting firms in the world—an elite group that represents the pinnacle of professional services in auditing, consulting, and financial advisory. The firm’s name reflects the legacy of four founding organizations that merged over time, bringing together decades of experience, regional strength, and global expertise to form what is now one of the most reputable professional networks in the financial world. Headquartered in Amstelveen, Netherlands, KPMG operates through a vast network of offices spanning more than 140 countries and territories, employing thousands of skilled professionals who deliver services in areas such as auditing, tax, risk management, and business consulting.

The other three members of this distinguished group—Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and Ernst & Young (EY)—are all strong competitors, continuously striving to enhance their global presence and technological capabilities. Each of these firms focuses on providing cutting-edge solutions that address complex financial, regulatory, and strategic challenges faced by organizations today. Despite their rivalry, they collectively uphold the values of integrity, transparency, and professional excellence that define the modern accounting industry.

While the Big Four firms often compete for large corporate clients, audit contracts, and consulting opportunities, they are also known for setting industry standards, shaping global accounting regulations, and contributing to economic growth through their thought leadership and innovation. KPMG India

KPMG has primarily three major lines of services, namely, Audit, Taxation and Advisory. Major work of the company is focused on its auditing services.

The total strength of the employees across the globe is around 174,000 people. The headquarters of the firm is at Amsterdam in Netherlands.

Each KPMG firm in different countries is a separate legal entity and is a member of the KPMG International Cooperative, a Swiss entity. The company is awarded the world’s most attractive employers in 2010 among the Big Four firms.

KPMG India was established in 1993. The Indian entity has grown so fast to incorporate its significant offices in the country that includes Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Chandigarh and Ahmedabad.

As per the company records, there are around 2700 companies as its clients only in India. The company has a very good structure and has very good value systems. It has a more professional career approach towards its businesses and its processes of the clients.

Management Consulting is a part of the Advisory Services wing of the firm. It provides solutions to the industries with the latest technology and information services. SAP and Oracle are the consulting services catered to the improvement and development of the clients’ businesses.

The employees have in-depth knowledge, experience and understanding of their industry verticals. The firm is an excellent place to learn, work and grow in career life. A lot opportunity is present for the employees to advance in their careers.

    • Employee retention is not only an issue with KPMG, but also with most of the IT companies in India. The reasons being competitors pay better or due to lack of projects or may be because of manager-employee poor relationships or unrealistic goals and deadlines. Thank you Rosalie for your concern.
